How to Create Custom Patches?

First, a graphic artist creates a unique logo. After that, an embroidery designer or embroidery digitizer converts the logo design into an embroidery file and creates a mock-up. After that, the embroidery file, dst, is sent to an embroidery machine that makes embroidery design, a patch, on a piece of fabric. After that, the edge of the patch is cut using a laser cutting machine or by hand. After that, the required backing, Velcro or iron on, is applied on the back of the patch. So simple, hah?

Create-Your-Own-PatchWhat Machines & Technology is Used?

We make embroidered patches using computerized embroidery machines, where the logo or text provided by you is embroidered using embroidery thread. The process starts with the logo being created on our computers. Once you approve the file, we create a digital embroidery file of your design. The file is transferred to the Barudan embroidery machine, which then reads the file and starts creating your cheap custom patch.

Type of Thread Used?

The most expensive thread used to make embroidered patches is Madeira. It is the most popular, and the finest thread available in the market, today. However, we only use Madeira when requested by a buyer. As Madeira is an expensive choice, and not suitable for buyers looking for a cheap custom patch. Which is why we offer standard Chinese thread. This allows us to create stunning affordable cheap custom patches for you.

How to Design a Custom Patch?

When creating your own patch, you need an artwork for your custom design. Once we have received the patch design artwork, our embroidery designers will use an embroidery digitizing program to recreate your logo for embroidery. We use Wilcom, the most popular embroidery digitizing software, to ensure that each stitch of your design is set in place as per your request. Allowing us to create a dst file for your embroidered patches that match your exact requirements.

How to Attach Custom Patches?

Our embroidered cheap custom patches come with four different backings. These backings are used to attach/apply your custom patches to your clothing. When you order your own patch, you are required to pick a backing of your choice. You can choose between Velcro backing, iron on backing, sew on backing, and sticky backing. The application method depends on the backing you choose. It usually depends on the clothing article the custom patches are made for. For instance, most Army patches come with Velcro backing. Additionally, large patches for jackets are always attached by a sewing machine.

What is The Minimum Number of Patches I Can Order?

We are one of the few companies that offer a service to create your own patch with no minimum. Huston Embroidery Service offers a collection of embroidered patches without any minimum order quantity. We take small orders ranging from 5 to 10 patches. It helps our customer to check out our custom patches quality before placing a large order.

How Much Do Custom Patches Cost?

Huston Embroidery Service uses a stitch-count based pricing method. Unlike other companies that charge you based on the size of the custom patches. We understand that size-based prices can easily blow your budget. This pricing structure is unfair for a simple logo. The number of stitches depends on the design size and graphics. For instance, a round shaped 3” logo that is 100% covered with stitches carries approximately 15,000 to 25,000 stitches.

What is The Timeframe for Custom Patches for Hats?

We do our best to get your orders processed and delivered as soon as possible. However, the exact date can only be given once you have confirmed your order. The delivery timeframe for your custom patches for hats or jackets depends on the number of patches, the size of your patches number of stitches, and other requirements. The larger the order, the longer it takes. However, we also offer SUPER RUSH delivery and RUSH delivery at an additional cost.

History of Embroidered Patches

Embroidered patches are also referred to as cloth badges. These are a piece of embroidery that is created on a piece of fabric; along with a backing. Embroidery patches have a long-standing history and are inspired by old traditions. There was a time when people had to make embroidered patches by hand.

What Were Embroidered Patches Used For?

Back in time, embroidered patches were used by state militants. Their patches were their identities. Embroidered patches helped identify where a soldier came from. Today, these embroidered patches are considered a piece of art; as they were used for various occasions. In addition, these custom patches were used by various industries both private and government. These patches were used to help identify an organization or even be used for decoration.

Where Were Embroidered Patches Created?

We heard that embroidered patches were first created in China or India during the 5th to 3rd Century BC. People used various sewing techniques, patterns, and threads to create beautiful hand-made patches to decorate their militants’ clothing. This trend led to sewing the decorative designs on everyday clothing. Over the years, other cultures started to catch on the patches trend.

When Have Companies Started Using Machines for Production?

As far as we know, some sectors of the world that still at times make embroidered patches by hand, while most clothing patches around the world are created using machines. The first embroidery machine was introduced by Alphonse Kursheedt back in the 1800’s. Alphonse used a combination of hand embroidery looms and imported 12 embroidery hand looms to help create a mechanized process. It wasn't long after that, that Isaak Groebil was inspired from a simple household sewing machine; and created the first Schiffli embroidery machine. The process is used as a continuous threaded shuttle, and needle.

When Have the US Accepted Embroidered Patches?

We heard that embroidered patches were first taken on by the US Military unit. The process started with unofficial patches found on soldiers’ uniforms. During the Mexican war, and civil war; units started to identify their soldiers. The oldest US Military patch is the Big Red One and was first used on 31st October in 1918. During the World War II, we saw Army officials, Marines, Coast Guards, and Air Force officials wearing these patches as a proud tradition. Over the years the patches became more sophisticated and personal. Allowing an individual to wear their patches with pride. However, with the passage of time, these patches became more popular; and are now widely used around the world by civilians, too.

Quality Check

Our staff is trained to run a strict quality check on each custom patch before it is posted. These experienced embroiderers have the skills and experience required to work in the embroidery industry.

Our quality check includes the following steps:

1.  Check size; using a ruler to measure the finished size of the ready patches.

2.  Read all the wording inside a logo and match with the logo artwork.

3.  Ensure the backing (Velcro/Iron on) is applied, correctly.

4.  Ensure the border type (Hot-Cut/Merrow), and the color is as per the instructions.

5.  Count the finished custom patches carefully; we always send 3-5% additional patches.

6.  Ensure the packing is nice and clean; we do not use rubber bands; rubber melts, and it may destroy some/all the custom patches in a package. We make small packets using a thin thread.

Stitch-Count Based Prices

Unlike other companies, we use the stitch-count based pricing method. It makes lots of sense when you use “pay as you go” pricing calculator. Size based prices are, sometimes, too much for a simple logo. The number of stitches varies logo to logo; a 3” round logo with 100% covered with stitches may have 15,000 to 25,000 stitches.

So, how do our competitors calculate the cost? Do you think they would base the cost on 15,000 stitches?

Absolutely NOT!    They always base their prices on the higher stitch-count.

Isn’t it unfair for you?     If so, stop being charged unfairly, TODAY!
